Oh and a couple questions.. Do you own lighting? If so what kind? When you were starting out, did you rent equipment? I don't have a credit card and I'm unable to right now but even if I had a credit card you need a huge limit. Also, how did you go about getting your first rep? Do you think it's a good idea to have one just starting out?

Thanks so much!

Thanks for the great post. It opened my eyes to what it actually takes and what sort of work behind a career as a professional photographer is. I was quite surprised about the big amount of time invested in business and the not so big amount of time invested in taking pictures. Hope to see more of your inspiring work. Thanks.

Great post Nick. I'm not a pro but from what I have seen and heard it's 80-90% business and only 10-20% image making. Your posts give great insight to what goes on beyond making photos. I think you will be a great mentor to some lucky people one day, even now if you are working with someone under you. Bravo, keep up with the hard work. You have showed us that it does pay off.

great post. i often have a hard time explaining to my friends why i can't go and meet them for lunch or spend a better part of the day with them. their reaction is often times, "what? you're not shooting today...." i'm convinced they don't believe this is a real full time job, yet i rack up more hours then my husbands 8-6 office job just doing all the things you so eloquently wrote about. take that suckers. oops i mean my very good friends that i love and adore.
