5 Things I Learned From Doing One Thing For 100 Days Straight

Creative Process, The Shop

A year and a half ago, I embarked on a journey that with my attention span, I thought was not possible. It was a project called #the100DayProject that was re-invigorated by my friend and SHOPTALKradio guest, Elle Luna (LINK TO PODCAST). We were on a mastermind retreat in San Miguel Mexico with Amber Rae (LINK TO PODCAST) and other inspiring individuals. She brought the idea to the table as it was inspired by Michael Bierut’s 100 days. She brought up

Cody Simpson: Album Cover Shoot

Fresh Stories, Visual Essays

Stoked to have shot the cover for Cody Simpson’s new album, FREE which dropped today.   We spent a day up on Malibu over at Cisco Adler’s overlooking the amazing ocean’s view of the PCH. It was amazing to hear his story of leaving his label to pursue the type of music he really loves and is passionate about. That takes courage especially at the young age of 17, so mad props to him.   Check out the album here:

And where does she play? In the sandbox. Creating a sandbox is key to creating art. Another key is recognizing the difference between “should” and “must.” To create authentically, we need to have the strength to relinquish “should” to make room for the

One Thing We Take for Granted…

Ghana with Pencils of Promise is always an incredible and humbling experience. Remember your days of elementary school? If you were anything like me, you didn’t love going to school. The feeling of getting up early and walking 10 minutes to school was dreadful. It was a “HAVE TO” not a “GET TO” In Ghana (as well as many other developing world countries), education is something that kids walk up to a mile to receive…and that’s if they even have a school

Staying Fresh: nickonken x MTV Breaks

The Shop, Onken's World

Staying fresh. Good question. I’ll be doing a podcast on that in a while in my mini series. I was interviewing Usher, and the biggest thing he said that stuck out to me was Evolve or Evaporate. You’ve gotta keep re-inventing. Look at the greats that are still relevant. He is one of them. Madonna, U2, etc. They all have re-invented over the years. The same applies to us. I think it’s the mindset. You have to stay hungry. Devour
